Millet fields in Laddakh
I came across many millet fields while trekking in Laddakh. Millet is the chief grain crop of Laddakhis. They cultivate it in the summer, irrigating their fields with meltwater from the mountain glaciers. The meltwater is brought down to the valleys by a series of irrigation channels, dug over centuries and painstakingly maintained.
